Davey Hamilton was born June 13, 1962, in Nampa, Idaho, a second-generation championship driver. He started racing locally in the 6-cylinder class at Firebird Raceway in Boise. In 1979, he won the Rookie of the Year award, the season championship and set a track record. Hamilton continued in 6-cylinder ranks and made his supermodified debut in 1980, becoming Rookie of the Year in the CAMRA supermodified series in 1981. He then continued to climb steadily in the supermodified ranks. Hamilton took the Northwest Supermodified Racing Association crown three consecutive years from 1987 to 1989. From 1990 to 1994, he won championship titles year after year, capturing titles in the Western States Supermodified Tour, the Super Modified Racing Association Series, the Injected Fire and Fury Series, and the Madera Championships. In 1990, Hamilton made his debut in a number of other series including: the Bay Cities Racing Association at Madera, the Washington Midget Racing Association at Cottage Grove, Oregon, the USAC Silver Crown at Indianapolis Raceway Park and the NASCAR Southwest Tour at Tri-Cities. Hamilton joined the IRL in its inaugural season and his best finish came at the 1997 season opener at Loudon; finishing fifth, four laps off pace. Davey Hamilton made his Indy 500 debut in 1995 but the first year ended when the undertray broke on his car. Hamilton's 1996 and 1997 Indy 500 records showed impressive finishes, with 12th place in '96 and 6th in '97. During the 1998 season, Davey Hamilton was sponsored by Reebok/Nienhouse Motorsports. Reebok International commands a leadership position across nealy the full spectrum of global sports and Bob Neinhouse's commitment to building the premiere team in the Indy Racing League is demonstrated by the partnership with Galles Racing International, the assets of which Nienhouse acquired in 1997. Past Indy Car World Championship owner, Rick Galles, is General Manager and Jamie Galles is Team Manager. Davey drove a GForce/Aurora/Goodyear during the 1998 season until the VisionAire 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, when a new Dallara Oldsmobile Aurora was built for Davey.
